We’re working on the next generation of recommendation tools and pushing the boundaries of accelerating model  training and inference on GPU. You’ll join a team of ML, HPC and Software Engineers and Applied Researcher developing a framework designed to make the productization of GPU-based recommender systems as simple and fast as possible.  What you’ll be doing: In your role as CUDA Engineer Intern you will be profiling and investigating the performance of optimized code together within our HPC team. Part of this job will be to perform tests, unit tests and validate the numerical performance and correctness of the code. You will discuss your approach and results together with our CUDA engineers.

• You will identify gaps and determine which state-of-the-art insights to incorporate into the research pipeline. You’ll support the development and implementation of new technologies and apply deep subject matter knowledge to support planning for research projects. • You will lead a collaborative research effort to advance a long-term research agenda through multiple projects yielding results in one or more subareas or a broad area of research. You will contribute to ethics and privacy policies and help develop technologies that uphold company values. • You will expand relationships with product or business group leaders inside or outside Microsoft and contribute to product or business group decisions at a strategic level. You’ll create a measurable impact on business and act as a major contributor to influential publications. • You will proactively mentor and coach junior team members and share expertise to build team capabilities. You’ll represent Microsoft externally to grow the network and help develop a capability strategy that serves long-term research objectives.

• As an accomplished expert in a broad research area (e.g., large language model, deep learning systems, multimodal foundation models, embodied AI, and related fields) has a comprehensive understanding of the relevant literature, research methods, and business and academic context. • Leads a joint research effort (possibly involving multiple teams/universities inside and outside of Microsoft) to pursue a long-term research agenda which is in line with MSRA strategy. • Fosters cooperative relationships with academic communities, industry partners, and business groups within Microsoft to establish MSRA presence locally and support future growth.  • Creates synergy among MSRA research groups in multiple locations to enable collaboration and creativity

• Collaborates with product and business groups to provide expertise and technology, participates in technology transfer, files patents, authors white papers, and develops tools/services for internal use. May publish research.  • Bridges the gap between researchers and development teams, bringing new technology and approaches into production to solve immediate product needs. Identifies and applies research-backed solutions to positively impact Microsoft products or services.  • Gains expertise in specific research subareas and broad research fields, applies advanced concepts to product needs, and consults with engineers and product teams. Researches tools and methods to improve product quality, performance, or efficiency.  • Reviews and prepares data for analysis, ensuring quality and technical constraints are met. Develops usable datasets for modeling, adapts cleaned data for machine learning, and designs ETL pipelines. Collaborates to apply state-of-the-art algorithms to business problems and uses statistical tools to evaluate machine learning models.  • Supports the application and deployment of machine learning algorithms, seeks information to improve models, and helps create, apply, and verify models through iterations. Assists with experiments and sets up monitoring to track production models.  • Documents work in progress, experimentation results, and plans to ensure processes are captured, participates in creating informal documentation, shares findings to promote innovation, and follows ethics and privacy policies when executing research processes or collecting data.
