The Role: Structures Design Engineers in Tesla’s Drive Systems Engineering Team are responsible for the design, release and launch of structural components for Tesla Vehicle Drive Units. In addition, Structures Design Engineers are responsible for the integration of Tesla Drive Unit into the Vehicle and related NVH attribute tuning. You will be part of the team that creates and executes world-class drive units in terms of performance, cost, and manufacturability. Components of particular importance include transmission housings, motor housings, motor mounts, gaskets, elastomeric bushings, fasteners, as well as, the integration of these will all other Drive Unit subcomponents. Responsibilities • Support Drive system commodities launch at Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai and troubleshoot complex issues together with global team. • Drive Unit system level design utilizing parametric modeling to evaluate performance trade-offs. • Design and develop structural components (e.g. gearbox/bushing/acoustic cover) to achieve best-in-class structural, NVH performance from conceptualization to mass production. • Work closely with manufacturing, production and quality teams to improve yield rate and product quality for structures components. • Collaborate directly with North American and European design teams regularly. • Investigate and perform design changes as needed to support post-production issues with part performance. • Lead multi-sourcing and localization of production Drive Systems components. • Component design of complex castings with integrated lubrication and cooling systems, as well as, large numbers of internal and external vehicle interfaces. • Finite element analysis. • 2D drafting and 3D modeling utilizing CAD software. • Statistical analysis for component stack up requirements. • Component level testing for performance, durability, reliability, and variability. • Supplier coordination for high volume contract manufacturing. • Component quality troubleshooting resulting in supplier corrective action. • Production support for assembly of Drive Unit components including process and tool development to achieve equipment performance requirements. • Test specification design.

The Role We seek a highly motivated hands-on engineer for a position in the Low Voltage Test Engineering group, a team focused on creating robust testing equipment for our vehicles low voltage components. This team concentrates on mechanical, electrical, and software test systems supporting our production lines around the world.
