Minimum Qualifications
• BS or MS equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering and automation.
• 5 plus years in an engineering (automation) role with experience in directing a team of engineers for (NPI) new product introduction.
• Be proficient in written and spoken Mandarin and English.
Preferred Qualifications
• New product introduction and Manufacturing Operations experience desired.
• Proven track record of cost reduction, project management, and engineering design required.
• Required to understand and build tolerance stack-ups for assemblies and part level.
• Working knowledge of Robot arm application and calibration process.
• A strong plus would be knowledge of optics principles as they relate to 2D/3D vision system, and their use for positioning and critical alignment fixtures.
• Basic understanding of adhesives and dispensing technology.
• Working knowledge of pneumatics, servo motors, PLC, and PC-based control systems is a plus.
• Machine Learning, JMP, Minitab, Six Sigma experience are a plus.

Responsible for manufacturing research and development to solve complex problems that have a direct impact on the final product cost, quality, and delivery of Apple products. Under broad goals and objectives, exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for acquiring solutions to sophisticated problems. Sets standard practices and independently determines impact to design approaches and parameters to the final product. Applies extensive expertise in all facets of mechanical product design. We provide direction, mentorship, and resources to other engineering groups and project leaders as well as factory technicians. Act as lead engineer on a variety of projects and participates in the project planning of major sub-projects. Keeps abreast of all relevant technical trends and developments and incorporates them in appropriate assignments. Performs assignments in several of the following manufacturing engineering functions: Design for Manufacturability - Provide early and ongoing manufacturing involvement to ensure new products are mechanically manufacturable. Product Engineering - Works all phases of a product from concept to repeat manufacturing to end of life. Provides production support engineering with respect to technically sophisticated testing methods, procedures, and failure analysis. Process Engineering - Designs and develops technically sophisticated processes to improve quality and efficiency. Failure/Data Analysis - Plans, develops, and implements technically sophisticated procedures for the testing and evaluation of soon-to-be-released products. Specifies tests to be performed, compiles data, and makes recommendations for product design changes and final assembly standards. This will include the use of Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis using Six Sigma principles.

Apple is looking for a Product Design Engineer to be part of Apple’s Product Design Group in Shenzhen in China. We are looking for someone who is passionate about engineering and thrives on innovation. The role will require the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with demanding schedule requirements across a large cross functional team. A proven ability to deliver solid design solutions while balancing multiple priorities is key. Experience closely working with suppliers is important as well. The engineer in this role will be very comfortable with applying scientific method and have be able to apply or create the process through which they can solve complex problems.
• Contribute to sensor technology scoping and proof-of-concept investigations • Collaborate with multi-functional partners, including Software, Firmware, Algorithm Engineering, Display Engineering, Mechanical etc. • Module test and feature validation across all supply chain nodes • Failure mode analysis, root cause diagnosis, and system-level problem solving • Lead factory vendor activities and manage factory vendor team deliverable • Frequent business travel required (Primarily within China. To a lesser extent USA)
- Participate in design and development of next generation iPhone from concept to mass production. - Be the flexible or rigid board integrator to initialize and refine the design with PD, layout, DFM and technology teams from concept to production. - Be the technical owner at CM’s site to support various engineering builds ranging from Proto, EVT to PVT. Represent the EE team in a cross-functional team environment. - Be able to identify EE related issues in the field. Drive resolution of cross-functional issues including those related to architecture (performance, power consumption, thermal behavior), production (quality, failure analysis, manufacturing), and development (schematic design, PCB layout, and overall system integration).
