Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity. As a PE TPM in our team, you will be responsible for closely monitoring and driving China side activities including DFM, tooling release, process qualification, and material preparation for builds. Working closely with Material Manager (MM), Product Designer (PD), Mechanical Process Engineer (MPE), Tooling Engineer (TE), Global Commodity Manager (GCM), Supplier Quality Manager (SQM) and Reliability Engineer (REL). PE TPM is also responsible for driving suppliers to ensure the schedules on track, issues resolved and quality requirements met. The Role and Major Responsibililities · Overall program owner for mechanical components development · Act as focal point for all Asia side Mechanical Component Development · Drive risk mitigations with Asia based teams and communicate outward to a cross functional audience · Maintain close communication with the US based core team members such as PD, System TPM and ID to ensure issue resolution and schedule · Work closely with Mechanical Process Engineering teams, Tooling Engineering teams, and suppliers to keep tooling and material schedules on track · Lead critical issue resolution throughout product development cycles. · Travel domestically and internationally to supplier sites and Amazon US as needed to keep project on schedule · Drive and track mechanical material readiness for Engineering builds · Lead meetings to keep supplier facing cross functional teams organized and focused throughout design cycle · Lead meetings to make good sync up between China based teams and US based teams · Work with cross-functionally managing a diverse group of engineering, operations and product management professional proficient at creating and tracking complex development schedules, tracking risks and issues
- Manage molding trials for new programs, providing feedback for corrective actions to tooling engineering, molding and material suppliers. - Establish necessary process parameters for a given part to meet all Apple functional and cosmetic requirements. - Act as first level engineering response to production quality issues for molded plastic parts. - Determine root cause, and where appropriate, institute corrective actions. - Collaborate with supply management, product design and quality engineering groups on material selection, design feasibility, aesthetics and production process control of new part designs. - Participate in supplier factory audits and assessments to define their capabilities and suitability for molding Apple products. - Take the leading role in suggesting or adopting ideas for improving productivity and quality of part manufacturing, molding and tooling techniques. - Train supplier engineers at plastic manufacturing plants in Asia to apply new materials and processing techniques. - Develop collaborative relationships with Apple suppliers through training and quality control visits. - Will be an advisor to plants and cross functional team members on maintaining correct controls on the processes and inspection certificates on the materials.
You will be a part of collaborative environment contributing to the creation, evaluation, and implementation of end-to-end manufacturing solutions for Apple’s products. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders in Quality Engineering, Global Supply Management, Product Design, and Industrial Design in order to ensure our manufacturing solutions meet our product quality, cost, yield, capacity, schedule, and environmental goals. You will be expected to: - Evaluate product and industrial design goals to understand the dimensional, cosmetic, and functional priorities for the product - Collaborate with Global Supply Managers and Apple’s manufacturing suppliers to align on a manufacturing development strategy with clear goals, deliverables, and schedules - Identify and validate suitable fabrication equipment and processes to meet all Apple design and operational requirements - Develop and document processes including all parameters, consumables and secondary operation requirements to meet defined specifications - Conduct process optimization DOE’s, using data-driven and hands-on approaches together to find solutions to complex challenges - Communicate ongoing process development status to cross-functional teams and lead discussions to align design requirements with manufacturing capability - Willingness to travel internationally to support manufacturing partner sites and collaborate with in-region team members - Familiarity with a phase gate product development approach You may be asked to lead development in one or more of the following areas: - Tooling manufacturing machine: machining process and accuracy by process, machine brand and application - Plastic material related: typical resin type, supplier, shrinkage selection, amorphous, Crystalline/semi crystalline materials characteristic and key points - Injection molding process basic knowledges: injection machine selection key tips, injection machine type and trouble shooting basic knowledge - Plastic tooling design related: single shot, double shot, LSR, insert-molding, tool design experience, DFM working experience and Mold-flow basic knowledge - Control (SPC) data analysis. Lead a team of Post molding process in the development of Accessories enclosure. During development phase, you will be required to: - Act as bridge between Apple design and suppliers’ manufacturing teams - Engage with Apple Design and Program Management teams at beginning stage of NPI and give continuous feedback based on manufacturing process development and evolution - Provide technical assessment of existing or new manufacturing partners - Identify manufacturing processes to meet product design - Work with suppliers to develop fixtures to ensure correct performance and mechanical requirement DESCRIPTION: In this highly visible role, you will manage selection, implementation & optimization of manufacturing processes for mechanical enclosure subassemblies for our legendary products. Responsibilities include developing new manufacturing processes to enable future product designs, conducting DOEs to validate process capability, and qualifying processes for mass production. You will utilize your Mechanical Engineering experience and work cross functionally with Product Design Engineering and Industrial Design to assess product features for manufacturability, and recommend capable production processes and equipment. You will work closely with Cupertino-based MDEs in the development of above said processes.
