THE ROLE The Tesla Dimensional Team is responsible for establishing tolerance strategies to meet requirements and supporting Quality to ensure delivery of the targets. We are seeking a passionate team member to represent the Dimensional team and lead the initiatives at the Tesla Gigafactory 3 Shanghai. The candidate is responsible for ensuring that the design of all Tesla products are of the highest standards of dimensional precision. This enables high quality appearance, precise vehicle operation, and high-yield assembly processes either by humans or by robots. Candidates must demonstrate an exceptional analytical approach and be capable of developing statistical analysis software skills. They must have experience with fundamental data analysis techniques, be able to draw logical conclusions and make data driven recommendations. Personal skills must include the ability to meet tight deadlines, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail oriented, and can work independently. He/she must establish and maintain a professional working relationship with external and internal teams at all levels across the company. They must be a top contributor in large groups and must be comfortable with representing Dimensional Engineering requirements in meetings that with participants varying from assembly technicians to senior execs. The candidate will identify and help to root cause the major Dimensional Issues in the factory. RESPONSIBILITIES • Locator and datum scheme development, documentation and coordination between parts & tooling. • Dimensional analysis (1D and 3D) to mature concepts and drive dimensionally optimized designs. • Analyze statistical data to establish target based design compatibility and to make recommendations. • Support the development of part and system based tolerance requirements through GD&T with Design, Manufacturing and Quality. • Review assembly and measurement tooling to ensure alignment with agreed and optimized design strategies. • Identify and prioritize Dimensional issues requiring resolution. • Drive resolution of Dimensional issues through quantitative data analysis, negotiation and influence. • Track status and report progress for critical issues, at management level. • Support the development of measurement requirements to ensure product build meets design criteria. • Support local suppliers to ensure dimensional requirements are understood and appropriate fixture designs are in place. • Liaising between local manufacturing team and US counterparts.
