The Role We seek a highly motivated hands-on mechanical design intern for a position in the Low Voltage Test Engineering group, a team focused on creating robust testing equipment for our vehicle’s low voltage components. This team concentrates on mechanical, electrical, and software test systems supporting our production lines around the world. Responsibilities: • Design CAD models of test equipment • Layout electrical/pneumatic schematics • Host, and attend design review meetings • Support build, debug, validate, and tune equipment • Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits • Interact with various design, manufacturing, sustaining, and firmware teams throughout project • Establish great working relationships with vendors • Continually design and implement improvements to released equipment The ideal candidate takes pride in his/her hands-on work, analytical ability, organizational skills and attention to detail. The Role Structures Design Engineers in Tesla’s Charging and Energy Engineering Team are responsible for the design, release and launch of structural components for Megapack. In addition, Structures Design Engineers are responsible for Megapack product retrofit, field and manufacture quality issue solving and parts localization. You will be part of the team that creates and executes world-class products in terms of performance, cost, and manufacturability. Components of particular importance include post and cabinet, as well as, the integration of these will all other subcomponents. RESPONSIBILITIES • Act as a project owner, manage timelines and execution launch readiness, testing resource development, validation of specs and processes, sourcing requirements. • Manage communication between Megapack product design and other teams. Establish strong ongoing communications on major priorities and upcoming projects, track critical metrics and performance to targets, organize cross-functional improvements to part design and manufacturing process, and facilitate productive technical discussion. • Troubleshoot complex engineering issues together as a member of Design team, including but not limited to root cause assessment, defining validation plan, numerical simulation, executing engineering test. • Analyze data and reports from within the team, suppliers, factory operation teams, and provide necessary support to other teams for solving their issues.
THE ROLE • Tesla is seeking a mechanical design engineers intern in the Autopilot, Infotainment and Electronics Product Design team based in SH. • Duration 4 months minimum, 5 months preferred to perform a whole development process. RESPONSIBILITIES • Work closely with cross-functional team to define design requirement documentation. • Perform CAD work to reflect necessary critical dimension, inspection method, critical process, to ensure a good balance of product integrity and manufacturability. • Perform necessary analysis (Structural/thermal simulation/Tolerance stack, etc) considered as product design golden practice. • Perform necessary proactive validation to build end to end confidence for TESLA customers. • Communicate with industrialization engineer and supplier for DFM and DFA (or other DFX).
THE ROLE As a Mechanical Design Engineer Intern in the Lighting Engineering team, you will be responsible for the design, release and launch of lighting and charge port door systems for future Tesla vehicle product lines. You will interface with other vehicle engineering teams and work cross functionally with other departments. This can range from defining criteria at the concept phase with our Design Studio, problem solving current production issues with our Quality team, modifying designs to improve for manufacturing, collaborating with our Purchasing department during the sourcing process. You will be part of Tesla’s vehicle engineering organization and report to the Engineering Manager of Exterior/Lighting/Closure Systems. RESPONSIBILITIES As part of Tesla Vehicle Engineering team, you will participate in component design, engineering change release /tracking and component validation in Shanghai Giga factory to help improve the quality of Tesla products. Cooperate with suppliers to develop new innovations, modify designs to improve manufacturing, validate designs and refine validation process. Learn and assist with design release and launch lighting and charge port door systems, aligned with program product profile which may include: • Concept engineering & feasibility. • Design to deliver customer-driven lighting and charge port door system targets for craftsmanship, function, cost and weight. • Participate in the iterative process with the Tesla design/styling studio to deliver the optimal balance of form vs. function vs. cost. • Detail design including surface development, structures, datum strategy, attachments, GD&T. • Complete and release component & sub system design. • Utilize DFSS(Design For Six Sigma) methodologies as appropriate during the design, validation and launch of the program. • Support overall vehicle development milestones and prototype/production build events. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within the Tesla Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Procurement groups to ensure system manufacturing and assembly feasibility and serviceability.
