In this role, you will partner with equipment supplier and Apple technical team to act as the team’s representative to ensure the proper dissemination of specs and requirements, assess supplier capabilities and readiness for manufacturing, identify critical to quality items on each equipment, track and drive day-to-day quality control of equipment ensuring compliance to spec through equipment spot checks, and aid with the proper shipment of equipment to the end-user. You will be able to clearly and concisely report on the status of the supplier readiness and project health to the multi-functional team and executive management team while thoughtfully identifying and calling out critical issues which may affect the quality. Focus on supplier factory preparations, critical issues, clear communication and intensive spot and outgoing inspection during engineering design and validation cycles for new programs as well as during production ramp. Support the Global Supply Manager in the development and execution of comprehensive equipment support contracts. Primary Tasks Define and implement Quality plan for new projects at supplier and supervise the execution of the program through ramp Develop, review and implement intensive out-going inspection programs to verify equipment quality before it leaves the factory Review and approve packaging and shipping procedures to ensure the quality of equipment being received at the CM. Aid with the development of incoming inspection procedures and processes to ensure a quick and seamless handover Prepare and report on correlations between OEM IQC and Supplier OQC data Secondary Tasks Handle and report on new line, tool, and process qualification at suppliers Assist GSM team with new vendor selection and vendor capability audits Work with Suppliers and Apple security teams to ensure that the highest level of confidentiality is maintained with all equipment used with Apple hardware and test. Aid in the organization and deployment of repair and assistance teams from the supplier when needed for equipment repairs on site or at the supplier. Evaluate supplier ability to support maintenance contracts. Drive weekly supplier meetings with CM and Program Team to meet overall program objectives. Lead cross- functional communication between internal Apple technical, operational, and contract manufacturer organizations. Facilitate good communication and collaboration across engineering functions, operations, and vendors Create and maintain project schedules. Provide timely issue resolution and critical path activities.
The Role The Tooling Fixturing Engineer, is a critical role responsible for designing, reviewing, simulating, optimizing fixturing for Tesla Supply Chain. The fixturing engineering will cover fixturing for processes such as assembly, tooling, welding, stamping, inspection fixturing. The tooling fixturing engineer will evaluate the supplier proposal, optimize, and also help in RFQ/sourcing of the fixtures to ensure the highest standards of quality and cost effectiveness. We are seeking an experienced Tooling Expert to lead the evaluation, selection, and management of tooling fixture requirements for new RFQs (Request for Quotations) and sourcing activities. As a critical member of the team, the Tooling Fixture Expert will focus on tooling fixture design reviews, simulations, optimizing tooling solutions, commercial ensuring they meet the highest standards for cycle time, quality, and cost. This role will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient and effective production of plastic, stamping, and die-cast components for Tesla supplier. This role is vital to our Supplier CapEx strategy, as tooling represents one of our top spend categories. Key Responsibilities • Tooling Fixture Design Review: Conduct thorough reviews of tooling fixture designs for plastic, stamping, and die-cast components, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, manufacturing requirements, and customer specifications. • Collaborate with engineering teams to design and develop tools optimized for cost efficiency and quality standards. • Work closely with Tesla supplier chain, engineering, SIE, Tier1 & tooling fixture suppliers during the RFQ process to develop and quote tooling solutions that are optimized for process, cycle time, quality, and cost. • Assess the capability of fixture suppliers to be included in Tesla fixture supplier list. • Problem-Solving: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve tooling-related issues, including part quality problems, process inefficiencies, and cost-saving opportunities. • Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives to improve tooling processes, reduce cycle times, and enhance overall manufacturing efficiency. • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of tooling designs, analysis results, and process improvements. • Implement and uphold industry standards in tooling processes, ensuring all tools meet Tesla’s rigorous quality requirements. Stay updated on the latest advancements in tooling technology and techniques to continuously improve our tooling capabilities.
