Summary of the position This position in the Camera Engineering Team will focus on driving the design and engineering of various optical systems such as camera lenses, automotive glass parts through the use of state-of-the-art optical simulation tools and innovative technologies. This role will participant all aspect of design work from early architecture to final product assessment. As optics is linked to a variety of physical phenomena such as mechanics, fluid dynamics or thermals, the engineer will need to understand various aspects of the product design and think at the system level. The engineer will provide actionable feedback and design guidelines to the team members. Lab work is a component of the position especially for the characterization of lenses and coatings. This role involves collaboration with designers, engineering, manufacturing, and commercial teams and requires the ability to distill highly technical information and effectively communicate with other teams and management. As a Senior Optics Design Engineer, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative consumer products. You will work closely with an internal interdisciplinary team, and outside partners to drive key aspects of product definition, execution, and test. You must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment. In this role, you will: • Work with a component engineering team and product engineering team to provide rapid prototyping and characterization of optics or imaging systems • Provide support for modelling and design for prototyping and manufacturing of lightguides and lenses. • Use software tools (LightTools, Zemax etc.) to model system optics characteristics • Work with cross-functional team to draft component specification, design reviews, work with vendors to manufacture parts and validate results by specifying test parameters and methodologies • Communicate and manage overseas component manufacturing vendors A day in the life As a senior optical design engineer, the day begins with reviewing simulation results from the latest lens design iteration. I analyze optical performance metrics like sharpness,aberrations and image quality, ensuring the design meets specifications. Meetings with cross-functional teams follow, where we discuss project timelines, material constraints, and integration challenges. Afternoons are spent refining models in Zemax or CODE V, testing prototypes, or collaborating with the manufacturing team to ensure seamless production. Occasionally, I mentor engineers, reviewing their work and offering guidance. The day wraps up with documenting progress and planning next steps for future optimizations.

The engineer will provide actionable feedback and test reports to the team members. Lab work is a key component of the position especially for the characterization of image quality, optical metrology and camera failure analysis. This role involves collaboration with designers, engineering, manufacturing, commercial teams and requires the ability to distill highly technical information and effectively communicate with other teams and management. • Cooperate with cross functional and multidisciplinary teams to specify camera FMEA risk, develop and deploy calibration and performance validations stations to reduce camera product risks throughout the NPI cycle • Work with equipment vendors to design the perfect equipment from scratch for calibrating and verifying the performance of Apple products • Specify and acquire instruments, components and tools for use in an NPI environment • Run simulations or experiments to make data driven decisions and present results to senior management • Design, develop, debug and optimize algorithms to meet with accuracy and precision requirement for camera calibration and performance verification • Generate reports that analyze large amounts of NPI camera performance data, and present at both working level and executive level meetings • Up to 10% domestic and international traveling
