• You will master one or more subareas and gain expertise in a broad area of research, including applicable research techniques. You’ll also gain deep knowledge of a service, platform, or domain, and identify product needs by sharing the latest industry trends and applied technologies. • You will review business requirements and incorporate research to meet business goals. You’ll provide strategic direction for the kinds of data used to solve problems and apply deep subject matter knowledge to support business impact. • You will participate in onboarding of junior team members and assist in developing academics to be members of multidiscipline teams. You’ll identify new research talent to join Microsoft and collaborate with the academic community to develop the recruiting pipeline. • You will document work in progress and experimentation results and share findings to promote innovation. • Advise product teams by generating strategic frameworks and insights that guide the development of in-game and around game features for Wild Rift • Design and execute on surveys and player labs in Wild Rift’s prioritized markets that support decision making by authentically representing player needs • Conduct global qualitative research and provide actionable guidance for the games team in terms of trends, emerging risks, and opportunities • Provide strategic insights to test design assumptions and inform products in development • Leverage storytelling skills to expertly share your results with other Rioters, League of Legends leaders, and partner studios • Collaborate with analysts and data scientists to construct holistic, multi-modal analyses
Responsibilities: • Drive user research efforts on game teams in partnership with production & design • Leadership on high complexity, ambiguous problem spaces to help direct the experience of our new games, systems, and features. • Contribute at the China studio level on strategy and operations as part of the China studio insight team • Construct and perform labs, studies, and surveys - sometimes with novel or complex methodologies - designed to answer business, design, development, and usability questions • Share the results with game and China studio leadership in clear, illustrative presentations that drive meaningful change • Mentor other researchers, helping them learn from your experiences
• As an accomplished expert in a broad research area (e.g., large language model, deep learning systems, multimodal foundation models, embodied AI, and related fields) has a comprehensive understanding of the relevant literature, research methods, and business and academic context. • Leads a joint research effort (possibly involving multiple teams/universities inside and outside of Microsoft) to pursue a long-term research agenda which is in line with MSRA strategy. • Fosters cooperative relationships with academic communities, industry partners, and business groups within Microsoft to establish MSRA presence locally and support future growth. • Creates synergy among MSRA research groups in multiple locations to enable collaboration and creativity
