Minimum Qualifications • Engineering background (Mechanical / Aerospace / Mechatronics) • Motivated with the dream and ability to become an integral part of Apple’s talented, highly creative and dynamic engineering team • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Capability of 3D CAD modeling systems and workflow • Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) principles and drafting standards • Love stress-strain relationships, static mechanics (determinate and indeterminate systems) • Excited about kinematics and mechanism design Preferred Qualifications • High volume electronics manufacturing equipment design, including structures, sheet metal, plastics, fixture/mechanism design, robotics, probe design, plating materials and thermal design is a plus • UG NX experience preferred • FEA (stress analysis) highly desirable, ANSYS preferred • Plastic part design, molded part design highly desirable • Metal and plastic materials science, tribology and wear principles highly desirable • Project and product management experience strongly preferred • Mandarin written and verbal language a plus

- Automated measurement system development and optimization from ideation to deployment. - Detailed mechanical design of manual and automated measurement and calibration systems (including component and materials selection, 3D/2D CAD, mechanism design, FEA) - Collaboration with vendors to develop measurement systems and improve manufacturing and metrology capabilities and processes - Management of vendor prototyping schedule and manufacturing plan - Support new product failure analysis and continuous improvements in product manufacturability and performance, contributing to the production of the highest quality products available - Support new vendor development to expand Apple’s vendor base with regards to capability, capacity, and geographical influence - Requires up to 50% China domestic and international travel to support equipment design, deployment, and validation
The Role As a Closures Systems Design Engineer, you will be responsible for conceiving, architecting, designing, and engineering the dynamic exterior systems of Tesla vehicles. You will work alongside pioneering Designers and Engineers through all stages of the product design cycle: From initial sketch and clay modeling, through architecture and design, and finally to validation and product launch. You will be part of the team that creates and executes some of the most notable hallmarks of Tesla design. Responsibilities Serve as a member of the Vehicle Engineering Team to support automotive body and closure system development for the Tesla vehicle product lines Conceptualize, design, engineer and launch structural components and assemblies for side doors, hood and liftgates for CIW (Closures in White) team Work side by side with Mechanisms, Sealing and Glazing Engineers to integrate and package components within each closure Achieve innovation-driven closure system targets for appearance, function, quality, cost and weight. Participate in the iterative process with the Tesla design and styling studio to deliver the optimal balance of form, function and quality Establish system level architecture and functionality based on market research, design feasibility and prototyping Work closely with body team to lead sealing flange and hinge axis development Support manufacturing processes and material selections to achieve world class execution of automotive exterior craftsmanship and fit and finish Optimize designs with the appropriate analytical and physical assessments Interpret/develop Tolerance Analysis, DVP&R, CAE, DFM, DFMEA, PFMEA simulations/results and integrate feedback into designs Manage and collaborate with key suppliers (both internal and external) to support overall vehicle development milestones and prototype/production build events.

Responsibilities • Serve as a member of the Vehicle Engineering Team to lead automotive body and closure system development for the Tesla vehicle product lines • Conceptualize, design, engineer and launch structural components and assemblies for system role including power charge door, lighting, and wipers. • Work side by side with side doors, hood and liftgates for CIW (Closures in White) team to integrate and package components within each closure • Achieve innovation-driven closure system targets for appearance, function, quality, cost and weight • Lead investigations which drive the Tesla Design and Styling studio to deliver the optimal balance of form, function and quality • Establish system level architecture and functionality based on market research, design feasibility and prototyping • Work closely with body team to lead master section, sealing flange and hinge axis development • Work directly with Manufacturing Engineering to define optimal processes to achieve world class execution of automotive exterior craftsmanship and fit and finish • Optimize designs with the appropriate analytical and physical assessments • Interpret/develop Tolerance Analysis, DVP&R, CAE, DFM, DFMEA, PFMEA simulations/results and integrate feedback into designs • Manage and collaborate with key suppliers (both internal and external) to support overall vehicle development milestones and prototype/ production build events • Mentor junior designers and provide technique/approach guidance where needed between reviews
The role will require the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with demanding schedule requirements across a large cross functional team. A proven ability to deliver solid design solutions while balancing multiple priorities is key. Experience in closely working with suppliers is important as well. Be very comfortable with applying scientific method and being able to apply or create the process through which you can solve complex problems.
