2+ years of experience in product design or engineering field (preferably consumer electronic products – computers, cell phones, cameras, etc.)
Working knowledge of 3D CAD programs. Unigraphics NX is a plus.
Understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing.
Worked within international teams and OEM/ODM vendors.
Proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.

We’re seeking someone with strong mechanical design skills, an ability to lead projects, and excellent communication skills both with vendors in Asia and designers inside Apple. You will be responsible for driving failure analysis, building prototypes, studying analytical models, and organizing DOEs as we study novel designs. As designs mature, you will work on-site at contract manufacturers within China to implement and assemble the team’s designs. Up to 40% total travel required within China.
In this highly visible role, you will utilize your mechanical design engineering skills to bring products to the market. Your responsibilities as Mechanical engineers is to design next generation of input device products, portable and desktop computers, and modules to support the Mac and iOS product lines. Your responsibilities will span from technology development, concept generation to detailed design, analysis and testing through mass production ramp. - developing initial product layouts and new technology concepts - detailed design of mechanisms and sensors - support technology investigations and development - building prototypes to validate function, manufacturability, and robustness - perform FEA or coordinate FEA activities to evaluate and optimize design concepts - analyze data generated from builds and lab experiments - participate in design reviews to generate and receive constructive feedback - perform tolerance analyses to predict performance of mechanisms, sensors, and cosmetic - create specifications, detailed design and 2D documentation of all parts and assemblies - work with operations teams to evaluate and develop supply chains capable of - manufacturing new subsystems and products - interacting with vendors to develop manufacturing processes and tooling concepts - define testing requirements and equipment and analyze the data produced - support build activities including finding root cause for failures and solutions for issues that impede build progress

A day in the life As a Sustaining PD Engineer intern you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative consumer products.
