As a Manufacturing Test Engineer you’ll be expected to: • Design and Develop test solutions and test-setup prototypes for new technologies • Work collaboratively with engineering and operations partners • Serve as a test lead on cross-functional projects with significant bottom-line impact • Ensure the quality and execution of our manufacturing test systems • Lead test design and drive test coverage reviews with engineering teams and CMs. • Proactively communicate technical information and status to broad, cross-functional teams via weekly updates • Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions • Understand system inter-dependencies and limitations • Travel to development and build sites in Seattle and Asia to support NPI activities. • Work with contract manufacturing test teams to ensure test line readiness for NPI build events. Tesla Electronics Test and Automation Group (ETAG) is the main point of contact to ensure the highest quality vehicle, silicon and robotics electronics for our customers. Our mission is to develop test automation equipment, architect software automation framework, and provide hardware/software/data infrastructure for Tesla electronics communities worldwide. We are seeking an engineer to design Manufacturing Test Equipment for low voltage electronic hardware. Automated functional testers will be deployed at Tesla factories and contract manufacturers worldwide. This team concentrates on mechanical, electrical and software design of reliable testers and tools for all production vehicles. We are looking for makers, self-motivated people who love tinkering and get satisfaction from manifesting ideas into real tangible things. Project timelines can be as short as a few weeks, producing equipment to test and assist in the assembly of the vehicle programs on the bleeding edge of Tesla’s innovation. This is an opportunity to be a part of the “machine that builds the machine.” Responsibilities • Design and develop automated test equipment for functional test of low Voltage automotive modules • Create Production test specification for electronic hardware • Create, read, interpret, and diagnose schematics, wiring diagrams, and circuits • Create test software to communicate with test equipment such as power supply, signal generators, DAQ, spectrum analyzer • Develop software drivers and framework to interface with automotive modules using CAN, LIN, Ethernet & USB • Confer and collaborate with cross functional teams, such as hardware, firmware, factory process, and quality teams • Support bring up, validation, and development of new hardware and systems at suppliers • Sustain existing testers at suppliers
In this role, you will: - Design and develop advanced optical sensor test stations and integrate sophisticated instrumentation - Build algorithms for calibration, validation, and optimization in high-volume manufacturing environments - Apply advanced data processing or AI/ML techniques to improve test coverage, accuracy, and yield - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated mechanical, electrical, and software test solutions - Debug complex optical-electrical-software issues and lead system commissioning at global manufacturing sites
• Define and deliver scalable test software architecture usable across multiple product lines. • Build drivers, applications, protocols, frameworks, and utilities that power Apple test systems. • Collaborate with cross-functional partners in Hardware, Software, Operations, and CoreOS. • Develop and deploy calibration and restore software solutions for new product introductions. • Expand CI/CD pipelines with automation, testing frameworks, and diagnostic utilities. • Investigate and resolve issues with hands-on debugging and performance optimization. • Partner with and lead vendors to deliver robust, high-quality software solutions. • Drive continuous improvement in software design, system efficiency, and development processes.
• Based on understanding a product feature, determine the best manufacturing stage for testing GPU/CPU hardware features. This could be ATE, socketed or board-level system test, rack-level test, or pod/cluster-level test, as needed. • Create new tests or test conditions based on an understanding of hardware features or learnings from customer returns or gaps in internal manufacturing stages. • Perform or automate test runs, analyze and visualize data to ensure a high-quality test, and guide debug for yield or escape issues. • Partner with test engineering and operations teams to implementing efficient manufacturable test solutions
