The Role As a production Engineer of Interior trim Team in Tesla’s Vehicle Engineering Group, you will be responsible for Release and launch of interior components and systems for current M3 planned production and future Tesla vehicle product lines and also lead the part localization. You will be part of the team that creates and executes world-class interiors in terms of form, function and luxury. Commodities of particular importance include IP, Console, X Car Beam, Door Trim Panels, Hard Trim, Headliner Systems, Carpets, Insulators, Seats and Luggage Compartment Trim and the integration of these commodities into the vehicle. You will utilize your expertise in one or more of these commodities and develop as a full vehicle engineer – designing and delivering interior systems rather than just components as you work with a lean and agile team of the best automotive engineers in the industry. You will report to the Engineering Manager of Interior Systems. Core Responsibilities Along with Tesla’s vehicle engineering team, you will release and launch interior components and subsystems which are aligned with program product profile with responsibilities that include: Develop and execute interior system requirements for one or more of the aforementioned interior commodities Achieve customer-driven interior system targets for luxury, function, cost and weight Participate in the iterative process with the Tesla design/styling studio to deliver the optimal balance of form vs. function vs. cost Implement processes and quality to achieve world class execution of automotive interior craftsmanship and fit & finish Support in design optimization with the appropriate analytical and physical assessments You will Utilize DFSS methodologies as appropriate during the design, validation and launch of current and new programs You will interpret CAE simulation results and integrate recommendations into product design. You will collaborate with key interiormsuppliers and to support overall vehicle development milestones and prototype/production build events Your will collaborate with cross functional teams within the Tesla Vehicle Engineering, ManufacturingEngineering and Procurement groups to ensure interior system manufacturing and assembly feasibility and serviceability. THE ROLE Interior Engineering Team at Tesla is responsible to design and engineer all interior components inside the Interior Cabin. We are subdivided into 11 internal groups all supporting each other concurrently to execute Tesla Interior Product development programs. Our core responsibility lies in taking a product from Cradle to grave – all the way. This involves Concept creation, Concept Engineering, Production Engineering, Tooling & Manufacturing, Validation and Testing, Launch and Ramp and eventually support with Field reliability. We support the full lifecycle of the Products. Though we are split into different sub-groups to facilitate project execution and future innovations, the team is completely made up of Mechanical and Electromagnetical Engineers only. RESPONSIBILITIES • Design and engineer sub-components for all interior commodities. • Achieve customer-driven interior system targets for luxury, function, cost and weight. • Execute local changes, initiated by the Global Interiors team, of parts and systems according to Tesla Change Management process. • Implement processes and quality to achieve world class execution of automotive interior craftsmanship and fit & finish. • Support the global team in design optimization with the appropriate analytical and physical assessments. • You will be required to prototype parts using 3d printing, put assemblies together in our prototype lab and work on modifying production parts with product changes if needed for testing and evaluation purposes. • You will collaborate with key suppliers and to support overall vehicle launch milestones and prototype/production build events. • Your will collaborate with cross functional teams within the Tesla Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Procurement groups to ensure interior system manufacturing and assembly feasibility and serviceability, and ensure competitive supplier manufacturing, quality and pricing. • You will be responsible for utilizing product engineering processes such as DFMEA and technical documentation - DVP&R and ensure Tesla and supplier manufacturing quality control plans are executed accordingly. • Follow up with suppliers regarding system/part level validation, quality control plans and the engineering elements of PPAP. • Support the homologation team for relevant component approval (e.g. CCC, GB testing) Long Story short – You will work as a Mechanical Design Engineer under a Mentor.
